Ice Box Cookies

makes 4-5 dozen
 
1 lb. packed dark brown sugar
1/2 lb. butter
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup finely chopped nuts
2 cups flour, sifted
Cream butter and sugar.
Beat in egg, vanilla, and nuts.
Stir in flour.
Roll dough into one or two logs (about 1-1/2 inches in diameter), wrap in wax paper, and refrigerate.
When ready to bake, preheat oven to 350F.
Cut logs into thin slices and place on a baking sheet 2 inches apart.
Bake 4-5 minutes.  Watch carefully as they burn easily.
Cool 30 seconds, then transfers to wire racks to cool.
