Italian Meatball Cookies

Also know as Italian Chocolate Chip Cookies.

type: rolled
makes: 5 dozen

3 cups all-purpose flour 
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder 
1-1/2 teaspoons baking soda 
1 teaspoon salt 
1 teaspoon ground cloves 
1 teaspoon ground allspice 
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg 
1/2 cup butter
1-1/2 cups granulated sugar
3 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup chocolate bits or chips
glaze
2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 
4 cups powdered sugar 
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 
1/2 cup milk
sprinkles

Preheat oven to 350F.
Grease cookie sheets. 
Combine flour, 2/3 cup cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, salt and spices, set aside.
Cream butter with sugar, eggs and vanilla. 
Stir in flour mixture. If too sticky add more flour, if too dry add a little milk.
Add nuts and chocolate bits; mix with hands if needed.
Roll dough into 1 inch balls and place on the cookie sheet about 2 inches apart.
Bake 10-12 minutes or until cookies are firm. Be careful to not overcook.
Remove from oven and rest on sheet 2-3 minutes then remove to wax paper.
Cool completely.
Frost with a little glaze and add sprinkles if desired.
To make the glaze: Combine 4 cups powdered sugar, 1/4 cup cocoa, add about 1/2 cup milk.
