Covered Cherry Cookies

1-1/2 cups
all-purpose flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/3 cup butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
1 egg
1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla
10 ounces jar maraschino cherries
6 ounces chocolate chips
1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
Preheat oven to 350F.
Sift together flour, cocoa, salt, baking powder
and baking soda, set aside.
Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add egg and vanilla.
Stir in dry ingredients.
Shape dough into 1 inch balls and place on and
ungreased cookie sheet.
Press down the center with your thumb.
Drain cherries, reserve juice.
Place a cherry in the center of each cookie.
In a small saucepan, combine chocolate chips and
milk until chocolate has melted.
Stir in 1 tablespoon of the reserved cherry
juice.
Stir in 1 tablespoon of melted chocolate-milk
over each cherry.
Bake for 10 minutes.
Transfer to wire racks to cool.

My Grandma used to make
these cookies when I was young, which
really isn't all that long ago. My family
loved them. I finally asked her for the
recipe and then just found it again here.
These are one of my favorite cookies,
tying only with Chocolate Chip cookies.
